Remember to Slow Down

Today was a particularly mild fall day with a warm breeze and lots of sunshine. The beauty of fall never ceases to amaze me.

I also realized that tomorrow will make it a mere two months until Christmas. Wow. When I was younger, I felt like that build-up to the holiday season was more apparent and you actually had time to enjoy the anticipation, but now it just comes and goes in a flash. And the weight of everything going on in the world seems to overshadow that feeling of joy at times.

When you feel that sense of heaviness, it’s truly important to take a moment and slow down, to pause, to relish the present moment. Our minds are constantly racing from one thought to the next, and if we don’t find a way to control that feeling, it can get the better of us. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in the elevator and someone gets off on the wrong floor only to rush back in once they realize their mistake. It goes to show you just how preoccupied people’s minds are at any given time.

Actor John Stamos was recently on the Jimmy Fallon show and he gave some very profound advice when asked about the last time he saw his late friend Bob Saget. He reminisced about how beautiful of a night it was and how grateful he was to have decided to hang out a bit longer than he normally would have. He reiterated about life can get so busy and people are constantly on the go that they often don’t prioritize staying an extra five or ten minutes – not realizing the impact that decision could have later on.

“If you have a chance, if you’re with someone you love, someone you care about, stay a little longer. Have the cake. Have some coffee. “

John Stamos

So take a deep breath and be grateful for each day that comes for we are reminded every day of how fragile life is. Be kind, spread positivity, and check in with your loved ones. Try to worry less about what you can’t control and be faithful that everything will work out the way that it’s meant to.
