Combating the Blahs

Hello, beautiful people. I hope you are all doing well.

We are officially in that ‘it’s still light at 9pm’ era and I’m all for it. There is just this renewed feeling of optimism in the air when you look outside and the sky is still bright that late in the evening.

Admittedly, it has been more cloudy, chilly, and rainy this past week in the GTA. Heck, I was running my heater at one point this week.

But alas, I have to remind myself that June is almost upon us and that means summer is just around the corner.

The biggest shift in our mood comes from within. It’s all in our mindset. If we tell ourselves that, hey, we can’t control the weather, but we can control our mood, things can really shift. The less you dwell on something that you know you can’t control, the less it controls your thoughts.

Speaking of unpleasant feelings controlling your thoughts, I recently read a very compelling quote about managing your worries. Often, we are taught not to worry at all about things we can’t control; however, that is much easier said than done.

The quote was by Lori Deschene who is the founder of Tiny Buddha – a motivational site about self-improvement, inspiration, and positivity (much like my own blog).

This really resonated because it was such an authentic depiction of the human psychology, in my opinion. You can’t just tell people not to ever worry. That’s just unrealistic. It’s about managing your worries in a way that is ‘productive’ and not crippling.

One way to alleviate your worries is by listening to some soul-purifying music and one individual comes to mind as of late: his name is Jamal Roberts.

So I stopped watching American Idol a long time ago, however, I did catch snippets of this past season. They recently announced the winner, Jamal Roberts, a 27 year-old father of three from Mississippi.

Again, I have not regularly watched in years, but I do think it’s safe to say that they definitely voted for the right person. There was a lot of great talent – as is always the case – but when I caught Jamal’s performance after his big win, I was completely blown away!

We know that there are a lot of good singers out there, but very few tend to connect with your heart-strings the way that Jamal’s voice does. It just oozes soul, divinity, depth, and everything in between. He truly has a God-given talent, and now the whole world will get to hear the true essence of it.

Take a listen to this beautiful performance of the song ‘Heal‘ by Tom Odell.

As we wind down the month of May, I wish you all a peaceful June filled with many blessings, good health, peace and prosperity.
