Drumming Up The Adrenaline – Literally

I have documented my love for group fitness on my blog in the past, and recently I discovered a class that was a whole different vibe. I usually gravitate towards the medium-to-high intensity cardio classes, so when I came across this unique ‘drums’ class, it really piqued my curiosity. As usual, I am late to the game. Apparently, this class has been around for a long time, like many years, but I only recently discovered it.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I went, because even after watching some of the YouTube videos, it seemed fun but a bit daunting since there were a lot of synchronistic movements to perform in order to keep up with the routine.

Anyways, after the first class, I was immediately drawn in. Basically, the setup consists of an exercise ball on a few risers and actual drumsticks. (As pictured here)

The exercise ball is basically your ‘drum’ and you follow choreography that involves beating the ‘drum’, the risers, and the sticks themselves. But what makes the routine even more fun is that you use other people’s drums on either side of you and behind you, so there is a lot of coordination involved – but it’s fairly easy to pick up.

You get quite the workout by the end and the energy level is amazing – which is highly influenced by a great instructor who keeps the crowd upbeat and energized throughout the whole class.

So, if you’re a cardio junkie and are looking for something new and different, find out if there’s a ‘cardio drumming’ class in your area. It’s super fun!
