July’s Gentle Glow

Picture of a serene outdoor space with the sun shining bright

Hello beautiful people! I hope this Sunday is treating you well. Alas, we are in the thick of a beautiful summer – that is already passing us by at lightning speed!

I’ve said this many times before, but there is something so uplifting about the skies being light and bright past 9pm. I always relish these times because they are so limited.

Last week, though, it felt like an oven outside. It was literally too hot to be out for too long. I’ll take that extreme over -30 any day though! lol Thank God for air conditioning!

This time of year reminds us that life isn’t meant to be lived solely behind our phones and strict schedules. It’s meant to be felt and seen.

Walks in the summer are so refreshing. It’s always so nice to see everyone out and about actively playing sports, walking their dogs, and just enjoying themselves.

Also random fact: I recently discovered that in Nunavut, the sun is generally constantly visible during the summer months – which is labelled as the Midnight Sun. It makes sense because much of Nunavut lies above the Arctic Circle, and because of that, it is continuously exposed to sunlight for weeks or even months without the sun ever setting below the horizon! I would imagine that would be a very euphoric visual having the feeling is being dusk at 2am.

As you soak in the summer heat, please be safe while you’re out and about. Just yesterday, there was a senseless act of violence at a busy downtown street festival in Toronto, which resulted in two lives being lost. It is always so heartbreaking to hear about these things – especially when people are simply out and about minding their own business, trying to enjoy their summer. It’s just another stark example of how quickly a regular, enjoyable day can turn into sheer pandemonium and panic.

Anyway, we can’t let these occurrences deter us from our own peace and enjoyment. Life is short, and we can’t live it in a cage.

Get out and enjoy the sunshine. It’s a form of self-care, after all.

The busyness of our everyday lives can often leave us with a lot of mental clutter. A good dose of fresh summer air can easily declutter all of that chaos in our heads and bring us the clarity that we need.

The beauty of nature also often has a way of reconnecting you to yourself. During my walks, I sometimes sit down and just take in my surroundings. It does wonders for that feeling of being refreshed and rejuvenated.

I wish all a continued peaceful, joyful and safe summer.

God Bless.
