Spring Forward with a Taste of Winter

Hello beautiful people. I hope you are all doing well. So we have officially entered ‘that time of the year’ where the promise of warmer weather and more daylight is in air…mixed with some frost, snow and cold wind, of course!

The clocks moved forward an hour last Sunday and in celebration of that, we were met with winter-like conditions in the GTA.

When it comes to daylight savings, I find that I’m always feeling the effects of it on day two, not so much day one, and then the adjustment becomes normal. There has been some talk about daylight savings time ending for good, but I personally like it – I think it creates a healthy sense of optimism at certain times of the year and each scenario comes with its pros and cons.

Gaining an extra hour in the fall gives you the sense that you have more time to get everything done in your day, but it also feels like it’s midnight by 4pm at the height of it. On the other hand, losing the hour, means its still sunny out at 9pm, but you get to snooze for an hour less. If I had to choose, I would go with the latter any day. There is something so therapeutic and uplifting about longer days and more daylight.

Also, while spring is days away, according to the calendar, we know we are not done with the white stuff yet. Oh no no no. Spring tends to be one of those seasons that has a split personality – it can’t seem to decipher whether to remain mild, rainy, misty, snowy, or just downright cold.

Having said all of that, just be glad that you don’t live in other parts of the country getting pummeled by Old Man Winter – more than we could ever imagine! We keep hearing about how this year’s winter has generally been a lot more mild – but I’m thinking that depends on where you live! (lol) The residents of Nova Scotia, as an example, would beg to differ.

Just last month, they were met with upwards 150 cm of snow over 3 days. That’s over a meter of snow!

This resident had a first-hand experience with their entire house being virtually by a wall of snow. In this photo, you can see how the snow drifts created a literal mountain so high making the home barely visible – let alone impossible to come in and out of. We can only imagine how long it must taken to clean that driveway! I’m just glad everyone was safe throughout the experience.

So the moral of the story is to complain less, as things could be a lot worse. We must embrace each day as it comes, be thankful and grounded in gratitude, and keep those that are suffering near and far, close to our hearts and prayers.
