Baseball Fever: Let’s go Blue Jays!

Okay, so here we are, on the cusp of the 2025 World Series, and the Toronto Blue Jays have a shot at repeating history 30+ years in the making.

BUT after last night’s game, it just became a little harder to achieve that goal.

Before I get into that more, let’s rewind for a second:

My interest in baseball lately has definitely been a notch or two above bandwagoner status. lol I usually hop on the bandwagon when it comes to hockey and basketball if my home teams are doing well in the playoffs and there’s some hope of going all the way – but with baseball, it’s never really been the case.

Maybe that’s because we haven’t gotten this far in a long time? That would make sense.

But I have personally been invested beyond just the casual check-in for the score and catching some highlights. I’ve been glued to each game, completely involved, feeling the collective anxiety all the other fans are feeling one inning to the next, as if I’ve been a lifelong supporter! haha

I definitely have a newfound appreciation for the game.

The Jays marked a major milestone recently when they made it to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) after beating the New York Yankees – which was a big deal in and of itself. This is their first appearance at this level since 2016, so definitely something to be proud of.

Then we got ahead of ourselves by letting the Seattle Mariners take a quick series lead right off the bat (no pun intended) and being down 2-0. We then showed everyone what we were made of by bouncing back and then some and evening the series to 2-2.

But after last night’s dramatic turn of events, we are now hanging by a thread going into Game 6.

It was the 8th inning, and we were up by one point, and it could have been enough to lead us to a third straight win, leaving Seattle on a high note, but then things snowballed.

Many fans online were buzzing about why the Jays’ manager decided to bring out a less favoured pitcher at such a critical point in the game. Again, I’m still learning the ropes of the game, but this created a lot of outrage as many believed this decision affected the eventual outcome of the game.

Not long after, the Mariners’ initially tied it up with a solo homerun followed by a massive grand slam giving them a 4-point lead by the bottom of the 8th inning – and at that point, we were essentially cooked.

The game ended with a tough 6-2 loss, with the Mariners now leading the series 3-2.

Many fans were left in awe at how quickly things changed.

I personally had an uneasy feeling prior to the 8th inning when George Springer got socked in the knee by a fastball, taking him out of the game. It also didn’t help that some Mariners fans were booing as he tried to jog out the immense pain he was probably in, trying to avoid having to leave the game. You could hear cheers as he eventually limped off the field. Yes, I get it, it’s a competitive sport, but let’s not lose our mutual respect, shall we?

So what now?

We have one more chance tomorrow night. Let’s hope that being back home is exactly the fuel that we need to keep the momentum going and push the series to game 7. And this goes without saying, but we can’t afford any more ‘bad’ calls being made! The pressure is definitely on.

The LA Dodgers clinched their spot in the World Series last night after taking care of the Milwaukee Brewers in a sweeping 4-0 series win. Now they can sit back and wait to see who they will be playing against.

Also side note: how amazing is Shohei Otani of the Dodgers? I have done my research, and all I can say is wow! He’s nothing short of amazing and is definitely the MVP for his team. He hit three home runs in the game just last night – one of which was literally knocked right out of the stadium!

I’ll leave you with this iconic moment in 1993 when Joe Carter hit the famous homer that won us the World Series that year. I still remember watching this on TV live, and what a moment it was!

If we manifest the right energy into the universe, we can relive this moment again.

I’m cautiously optimistic. Go Jays Go! #WeWantItAll
