My Feel Good Moment for Today

So towards the end of the day at the office today, a gentlemen walked in looking  stressed out and proceeded to tell me that he had left his keys and cellphone locked in his car and that he desperately needed to use a phone.

Without hesitation of course, I offered my desk phone and told him to leave our work number for the towing company in case they needed to call back.

I further offered a seat in our waiting area so that he didn’t have to stand outside in the cold while he waited.

To be honest, I did what I thought anyone would do in this situation, but his level of gratitude made me feel as if I had offered my lottery winnings to him or something.

About a half an hour later, the tow truck arrived and he was on his way, but he came back one more time to drop off his business card and to thank me again for being so hospitable.

Sometimes, it truly is the smallest gestures that go a long way.

It was definitely my “feel good” moment of the day.

  1. It is a sign of the times when basic/decent courtesy is seen as something large. Of course you definitely did something nice, I just wonder why can’t all of us do that? Then I see people on my bus sit on the outside seat, hoping nobody will sit next to them. If they want to be that comfortable just go buy a huge SUV to drive by yourself to work….okay, now I am ranting off track.
Loved the post. Keep up the good work of being a truly good and wonderful human being.

  2. Aww thank you so much, Anthony! Yes, I agree, it truly does say a lot when a little kindness goes a long way. With all the negativity in the world, I guess we unfortunately don’t see enough of this kind of positivity, which is sad. Hopefully, the holiday season will turn things around. 🙂

  3. Possibly i am making the most trivial comment ever – regarding the seats on the bus: I don’t take the outer seat to discourage others. I have long legs, and I am 100% more comfortable in that seat. I do stand quickly and courteously when another passenger wants the window seat.
More to the point: I agree, a little decency and helpfulness can be rare, especially in the cities. Stressed people give others stress; happy people give joy. Let’s all do something nice today and every day, and spread a little happiness.
