As humans, it’s natural for us to want to share our excitement with the world when we have fulfilled a lifelong dream or achieved a personal goal; but we must remember to always maintain that balance between expressing our joy and bragging. Furthermore, it’s important to be careful whom you share your successes with.
What do I mean by this? Well, the quote above by Frank Ocean, says it all. To me, it really speaks to the value of remaining humble and modest in life. Work hard at your goals, but never let your successes get to your head and be cautious about who you share those successes with.
You may have a lot of people in your social circle that you interact with on varying degrees, but true friends are really those that sincerely mean well for you and show that when you share your accomplishments with them. There is no hint of jealousy or ill-will, but only true happiness for you – even if they are not at the same point in their own life. Instead of viewing your success as a threat, it is viewed as further inspiration and motivation to help further their own goals.
This is why it is important to share your successes with the right people, the ones you can trust and that truly mean well for you, because, unfortunately, not everyone that you know has the best of intentions. They might disguise themselves as a friend but their true colours will get exposed once they learn of your success. You will know the good apples from the bad just by your interactions with them. It could be a snide remark tinged with insecurity or the spread of unfounded gossip about you to others as a way to hurt your reputation. Whatever the case may be, it’s important to pick up on that right away so that you can make a sound judgement call on whether you want keep that person in your life, or at the very least, keep a healthy distance from them. (Read my previous post on attracting positive energy here.)
Now there is a fine line between being cautious and over-thinking each maneuver. You do want to able to express your happiness in a liberating way – we all get excited and act in impulse – but you just need to find that fine balance. Don’t overthink but at the same time don’t get too carried away. There is no textbook answer to this. You will know what is best for you.
Remember, it’s all about positive energy bouncing off of each other at the end of the day. Work hard towards your dreams, remain humble and grateful, and surround yourself by positive vibes only. If you can keep this up, your successes will continue to multiply and when negativity taps you on the shoulder, you’ll be able to brush it off with pride and keep moving forward.
